Why Handmade Paper?
And my answer would be: “Because… it’s special!”, for many reasons. I believe that in our modern world of technology and communication the qualities of handmade paper and cards are appreciated more than ever. A handmade card is a gift in itself, and can even be framed as such if desired. My paper is environmentally friendly-made entirely with post consumer waste fibers of paper and fabric, and tree-free renewable plant fibers. Unique to my papers are my own home grown plant fibers; I use alfalfa and orchardgrass hay, straw, corn husk and a variety of flower petals and leaves to provide rustic, earthy, and beautiful effects. So, you might wonder- how do I make paper? The art of handmade paper involves two main processes. The first is the art of formulating quality base pulp from available materials. The second is the art of forming a useable sheet of paper from the hand blended pulp. To make pulp, the plant materials are washed, soaked, chopped or blended, and/or cooked for consistency.
