Why GPL and not LGPL?

The dspVM project is Free documentation and Free software in the sense normally understood by the GNU project. Much effort went into the earlier dsp_K project, to provide a license that actively encouraged proprietary applications to use the Free kernel. The benefits appear to have been uni-directional however, in that no substantial modifications or ports of the dsp_K software materialised. So without being critical of the dsp_K license, the dspVM project makes no concessions to proprietary users and actively promotes the use of the GPL in embedded software development. The GNU General Purpose License (“GPL”) precludes linking with proprietary libraries. The Berkeley Software Distribution (“BSD”) license allows anyone to redistribute binaries and this would seemingly conflict with proprietary interests. Like the GPL, the GNU Library GPL (“LGPL”) provides rights for users to reverse engineer binary distributions but from experience with dsp_K it is found the Free software elements gain
