Flash Chat is an online Flash application which is based on the server platforms — FMS (the alternative is Red5). Both of the servers support chat running. FMS — Flash Media Server, is a Product of Adobe. As Red5 is open source software, you can use it for totally free. The relationship between Flash Chat and Red5/FMS is simply like the relationship between ASP webpage and ASP server. ASP webpages need ASP server to perform, and ASP server is free. Flash Chat needs Flash Server to perform too. You can choose the free Flash Server Red5 or the charged Flash Server FMS.
