WHY FIRST-DEGREE MURDER?

Detectives worked with Ada County prosecutors to determine the first-degree murder charge against Jeffery Allen Baker, Boise police spokeswoman Lynn Hightower said. State code calls for such a charge in cases of “willful, deliberate” death and also in a murder that occurs in the “aggravated battery of a child under 12,” Hightower said. “For several reasons, the detectives and Ada County prosecutors considered this the most appropriate charge considering the evidence,” Hightower said. Baker will be arraigned Monday. He had been in the Ada County Jail since May 17 on an unrelated parole violation, according to a release from Boise police.
