Why Fashion Dolls?
Today’s world is a whirlwind of temptation. Everywhere we turn, the latest and greatest and fastest and most powerful of something–a new car, a new house, a new drug, a new restaurant, a new style–is confronting us and making us want something. Fashion is part of everything we do: home fashions, car fashions, food fashions, clothing fashions. What is a fashion anyway, and why do we either love it or find that it makes us uncomfortable? Fashion has a number of meanings, but in the context of clothing, fashion means simply “the latest mode of dressing.” The truth is that today’s girls love fashion–the colors, textures, styles, sparkles, beauty, variety, creativity, novelty. . . and the sheer fun of it all. Dressing in the latest styles and feeling “up to date” builds confidence. Yet contemporary fashion–as it is seen in advertising, on store racks, in magazines, on TV, in movies, on friends at school, and on runways–has become a kind of nightmare for parents of pre-teen and teenage girls
