Why exactly does a dog mess turn white after time?
The transition of dog feces from earthy green or umber brown to stark white depends heavily on the environment in which the feces is encountered. If left in a dry, warm environment with direct sunlight then the feces will turn white as a result of moisture evaporation from the waste product. If left in a cool, damp environment with no access to sunlight, such as a wine cellar or sock drawer, then the feces will likely not turn white. Simply baking the feces in an oven or microwave will not bring about the color transition as evaporation must happen slowly over time.
