Why evaluate CJD’s grant-funded programs?

0

The Office of the Governor, federal agencies and the Texas Legislature require information about programs they fund. They want to know who is being served and how participants are benefiting. It is important to show evidence that resources are being used wisely and having a positive impact in order for funding sources to continue to provide support. Who is evaluating grant-funded programs? The Office of the Governor has contracted with the [Public Policy Research Institute] (PPRI) at Texas A&M University to evaluate criminal justice programs funded through CJD. PPRI was established in 1983 by the Texas Legislature. Since that time, PPRI has been conducting multi-disciplinary research in a variety of policy areas to test the effectiveness of existing governmental programs and policies, and to assist policymakers in the development of new initiatives.
