Why Electric vehicles are not encouraged by the Govt.?

It is likely for the same reasons they are not widespread in the US. Electric batteries are very expensive and can cost 1/3 of the cost of the vehicle. They also need replacement every 5 years or so. Widespread use of electric vehicles would also put a strain on the electric grid that would need to be anticipated some years ahead with sizable investments. The third reason may not be as great in India is the short range of electric vehicle. Battery technology is improving but 50 miles between charges is not enough for most people in the US. Then there is the problem of being away from home and your battery dies where do you charge and how long it takes.
