Why dont triangles and quadrailateral polygons end in gon?
The words are Latin based, and the words tell us a lot about what the figures are. Triangles literally means “three angles” and there are indeed three angles in a triangle. A quadralateral means “four equal sides” and polygon means “many sides figure”. So the many sided figure that has four equal sides might be a parallelogram, it might be a square, or a rectangle. The polygon merely says it’s a shape. Get the picture? These are actually word pictures.
