The technology required to read polymer notes and scan the built in anti-counterfeit devices is very sensitive. Trams move and sometimes bump as they cross points which makes it difficult for such precise technology to work effectively. The new ticketing system, myki, to be introduced within the next six to 12 months, will accept notes on-board trams and at stops.
