That is a very good question, and here are some reasons that I believe the pyramids have not been renovated: For starters, that would be fairly expensive to do and Egypt is not exactly rolling in dough right now. The country has economic and social problems, so I do not think that pyramid restoration is their biggest concern right now. Also, the symbolic value of the pyramids is significant. They have been left in that condition for thousands of years (aside from that casing) and are a symbol of Egypt’s proud history when they were once the greatest civilization on Earth. In many ways Egypt is in a state of denial regarding the present situation, and the currently poor and insignificant country clings to its once storied and powerful history. As far as I know, the pyramids aren’t actually in danger of anything and are not in need of protection. They seemed very stable and secure when I visited them last year.
