Joint facilities have their benefits and obstacles. Some benefits would include sharing some common use space such as restrooms, meeting rooms and heating/cooling equipment. Some obstacles include: • Parking would need to be built for peak usage for the library and recreational center since they would have common hours open and similar heavy use periods. • A site for such a joint facility would need to be much larger than the proposed current Library location. • The current site for the Library is centrally located, about 1.7 miles from Roosevelt and 1.7 miles from North Avenue. • Planning timetables are not in sync – recreation facility planning has just begun, the Library has been working on their plan for over four years. In the end, it is likely that a joint facility would not provide significant savings for residents, because of a longer timetable and minimum benefits.
