Why don the Solon Schools manage their costs instead of asking for more money?
The district has effectively kept costs low and quality high. As data from the most recent State of Ohio Report Card illustrates, Solon’s per-student administrative costs are among the lowest in Cuyahoga County and in the bottom 5% in the state. Solon’s overall per-student spending also compares favorably with surrounding districts, while yielding top-notch results. For example, according to FY 2008 data, Solon was number 12 in per-pupil spending in Cuyahoga County at $12,266 per student. Other area districts with lower achievement results spend more such as Beachwood ($20,483 per student), Orange ($18,915 per student) and Shaker ($16,657 per student). Despite cost-cutting measures implemented throughout the district, inflation and lost revenue negatively impact the schools’ bottom line.
