Tranquilizers don’t work quite like they do in movies. Tranquilizers are a dose specific medication that if too much is given, could result in death. The police officers would have to calibrate the dosage based upon age and weight of the offender in order to avoid killing the offender. Too much of a tranquilizer they die … too little and it has no effect. Completely impractical for a police officer to do. Could you imagine the officer trying to measure out a dosage of tranquilizer. “Ok, he’s about 6 feet, weighs about 200 pounds … that would mean 10 cc’s. Okay, got the vial … oh damn, 11 cc’s, gotta get rid of 1 cc … damn 9 cc’s … okay … good 10 cc’s. Now, let’s get it in the gun … where did he go? Also, what happens if the offender is allergenic to the tranquilizer and goes into anaphalatic shock?
