Why don the police in Britain carry guns like the Police in the United States?
The non-arming of routine Police patrols is a deliberate policy based on the argument that it would justify criminals who do not currently carry firearms to do so. In other words it is thought that arming all police officers would escalate the problems as currently non-violent criminals would see arming themselves necessary as the possibility of escape when caught is greatly reduced when the police are armed. I think that the difference in gun crime in the UK compared with other nations is justification for that policy.
