Why don’t the operating companies utilize the auction to buy from other generators in the region?
A. Again, the Southern Company Energy Auction is designed to address concerns related to the Southern Company operating companies’ potential to exercise market power through the withholding of their generation from the wholesale market. Just as it does today, Southern Company Services will continue to purchase from third-party generators within the region whenever such purchases are determined to be beneficial to the operating companies’ customers.
