Why don the firefighters collect at the door anymore?
For the last 25+ years the firefighters have been collecting for The Salvation Army food drive by picking up bags of donated food door to door on the first Saturday in December. However with the explosive expansion of Milton in recent years this method has become infeasible. In order to continue in the community minded spirit of this effort the Firefighters, in collaboration with The Salvation Army, have expanded the scope of this food drive to encompass the whole community by establishing collection “stations” where citizens can drop off food for donation. The firefighters continue to support the Food Drive by giving leadership to these collection stations as well as continuing to receive food throughout the year at each of the local firehalls.
