Why don’t the Blue Boxes have lids?
Halton Region has considered using Blue Boxes with lids. However, the major issue that has prevented most municipalities (including Halton) from using these boxes is that lids can blow away, get accidentally dropped in the collection vehicle, or get caught in machinery posing a hazard to the crews. Economically, it could be quite costly to retro-fit or exchange Blue Boxes for a new type with a lid.
