Why don the basic stats match the dataplain stats?
The basic stats are a simple “hit counter.” The dataplain stats are much more sophisticated. The differences arises because the basic stats count all hits, including those from automated search engine indexing programs called “bots.” Since there are a lot of “bots” on the Internet, the basic stats will generally report a much higher figure than dataplain. Although in different ways, both are accurate, you should rely only on dataplain, as dataplain is attempting to give you a count of actual PEOPLE who have visited your site.
