Why don’t retirees eligible for Medicare have to use network providers?
Medicare has already set the amount a doctor who accepts assignment may charge for services for those on Medicare. These rates are greatly reduced from what the doctor normally charges. In addition, since the A&M Care plans generally pay after Medicare, the balance due is relatively small. Consequently, making Medicare-eligible retirees use network doctors would generate little or no savings for the A&M Care plans.
