Why don prefixes and area codes start with 0 and 1?
Telephone prefixes and area codes in the United States don’t start with 0 or 1 because those are already used for other purposes. In the USA, if a dialed number starts with a “1” it tells the system that you are making a domestic long distance call. And a number that starts with “0” tells the system to route the call through a module that allows the caller to specify collect or third number billing.
