Why don people use nutmeg to get high if its cheap and legal?
1) Nutmeg is a hallucinatory drug and not everyone wants to hallucinate. 2) Nutmeg must be consumed in relatively large quantities. In cooking, a light sprinkle is enough for taste. Imagine sticking a spoonful in your mouth. 3) Nutmeg is incredible bitter and the experience of eating it may outweight the pleasure of the high for some. 4) Nutmeg can cause serious dry mouth that can last for as long as two days. I was silly enough to try nutmeg once, and it didn’t have any effect on me. What I do recall is how unpleasant it was to eat. Although I guess if someone really wants to get high, they’ll eat or drink just about anything.
Most people are unaware that nutmeg contains mood altering substances. Even fewer people realize that only ground nutmeg that is light brown in colour works. It works better when it is boiled for about an hour and strained before it is consumed. This way there are none of the unpleasant side-effects often described by people who have tried eating the powder. The effects take more than 6 hours to begin! (Most people who take it in the evening are asleep by then.) The effects are similar to ecstasy which is also a cocktail of alkaloids(?). Nutmeg should be prescribed in mild doses to sufferers of depression, and enjoyed in higher doses by anyone instead of more harmful drugs.
