Why don’t more companies have Canadian web sites or at least Canadian content?
I am amazed at the number of companies that operate in Canada but don’t have any Canadian content on their sites, let alone a dedicated .ca site. For instance, they’ll have a form to put in your contact info, but the drop-down lists will only show US states and will only accept US format zip codes. If you do a “retailer search” or “dealer search” you have to put in a US zip code. I’m talking about companies that have been doing business in Canada for a very long time, like Black & Decker (small appliances) and Normark (Rapala fishing lures). Black & Decker sells bread machines through Zellers and Canadian Tire, but bread machines aren’t even shown as an available product at the B&D web site. How can we pressure these companies to change their attitude, without boycotting their products? Actually, don’t be surprised. If you take a look at the Canadian market place, we are pretty small.
