Why dont London build some man made beaches along the thames complete?
As others have said, there did used to be beaches along the Thames. It is not as filthy as it used to be and water quality is continuing to improve. The difference is, in Victorian times not as many people swam. The majority used it for picnics or paddling. The currents mean it would not be safe for swimming in. Paris has created a city beach and other cities around the world have created safe swimming areas as well. It would be great during a hot summer to be able to swim but it would get very crowded. You can swim in certain parts of the Serpentine and there is also a swimming lake somewhere on Hampsted Heath if that is of any use to you.
