Why don Kings and Princes wear crowns?

Sure they do. Crowns are only worn for royal or formal occasions. I suppose it depends on the sort of occasion, and the King’s sense of style. Look up Prince Charles’ investiture. You’ll see photos of him wearing an imperial crown. (I’m pretty sure, I’d have to look it up myself, but that it is NOT the same crown the Queen wears to open Parliament and all, but it’s the same style). And any of the past kings of Britain would have worn the Imperial crown for the opening of Parliament, their coronations, and a couple of other official affairs. It’s very heavy, and they don’t LIKE to put it on unless it is necessary for the power of the situation. Generally, Her Majesty wears a hat. For formal occasions, a tiara. There really isn’t a modern day equivalent of a tiara for a male in terms of fashion.
