Why don football teams have really fat people as goal keepers?
Basically, it’s what the 1st and 2nd answerers said combined. First of all, the fattest guy in the world – if he could even get out of bed – would only cover about 1/4 of a full-sized net (I’m estimating here – but a TV show called Sport Science answered this exact question for hockey which uses a much smaller net, and he only covered 75% of that net). In return, the guy would not be able to jump to stop high balls, would not be able to react to use his hands (and even if he did, it would probably bounce off his stomach – and likely injure him), and also (and this is important) would have no mobility – he’d be stuck on the goal line. Now first of all, most players after say 12 years old can score pretty much every time even on only 3/4 of the net; but since the guy couldn’t move, a player could just dribble in.
