Why don Christians celebrate Halloween?

Halloween is one of two high holy days for Wiccans. The Celtic belief of spirits being released is current, along with the worship of Samhain (the lord of death) – both are promoted as something to embrace on that day. Halloween for a Wiccan represents an opportunity to embrace the evil side of the spiritual world. In my congregation we have a harvest party with a barbeque and goodies for the neighborhood. Costumes are permitted for the kids, as long as none relate to anything dark or evil. This helps discourage kids from indulging in trick or treat and other traditional by unwholesome activities. We use the opportunity to share with them the message of Jesus’ love for them.

Halloween is a pagan holiday so most don’t celebrate it in that respect. I am Christian and I do dress up for Halloween. And although Easter and Christmas have pagan add ons… Easter is Christ’s resurrection so that isn’t a pagan holiday and Christmas is the celebration of Christ’s birth.. again, not pagan. When I was little my parents would hide Easter eggs because for a little kid that was more exciting. I was taught that the Easter bunny and Santa did not exist… the pagan parts of the holidays.
