Historically there hasn’t been a culture of philanthropic giving to media in Australia. Foundations have not been made aware of the importance and effectiveness of documentary and Australian filmmakers have not highlighted the ways in which their aims intersect with those of many grantmakers. Local foundations have not been offered simple mechanisms for giving to documentary projects and filmmakers have not provided compelling educational and outreach strategies.
