Why doesn’t Wrexham collect yoghurt pots and other plastic packaging in the green recycling box?
Unfortunately, we are currently unable to collect mixed plastic such as yoghurt pots, margarine tubs and various food packaging due to the lack of sustainable recycling markets for mixed plastic materials in the UK. There are lots of different kinds of plastics which require different recycling processes, however almost all plastic bottles are made out of the same three types of plastic – this is why the majority of councils in the UK collect plastic bottles only. We want to ensure that all materials collected from your recycling boxes can be recycled, and by collecting plastic bottles only, we can make sure this happens.
