Why doesn Upstate New York get tornadoes?
I am in the 5th grade and would like to tell my friends. A: A few tornadoes have hit Upstate New York, but they are rare. The main reason is that the very large thunderstorms needed to make the biggest tornadoes need a lot of warm, very humid air near the ground, cold air high above the ground and the right patterns of winds above the ground. Air that’s humid enough doesn’t move into New York state very often. You could check our Tornado Home Page for links to a lot more information about twisters.
