Why doesn UCit install plenum cable (cable that has a non toxic, fire retardant casing) rather than non-plenum cable that requires conduit and closed cable trays in return air spaces?
UL rated-plenum cable burns and gives off smoke at a slower rate than a cable with a non-plenum casing. Exposed plenum cable can significantly add to the smoke in a room during a fire. Free-strung plenum cable does not have the physical security and support that is provided by conduit or a closed cable tray system.
