The data in RETS is highly dependent on the metadata. It can be argued that modifying Excel spreadheets is easier than modifying COMPACT format found in the default server or even Relational format found in the RDB Adapater. For this reason, it makes more sense to store listing data in either “flat files” or a database to guard against accidental modification.
