Why doesn’t the Tilterator have a lid?
Because we didn’t want to charge you for one. Compost piles don’t have to have covers, but they do make the composting process work better. Covers are useful both for keeping the pile from getting too wet when it rains, and for keeping the pile from drying out during the hot weather. A pile that is either too wet or too dry won’t cook properly. The best cover for a Tilterator costs hardly anything at all. Take a sheet of cardboard, or a sheet of plastic (like a garbage bag), or a burlap sack and lay it over the top of the pile after each time you turn it. That’s enough to keep the pile from getting too wet when it rains, and too dry when it’s dry.
