Why doesn the text insertion point blink?
Because if a text insertion point blinks, then half of the time it is not visible, which means if you are looking for it, you will have to wait until it appears, which slows you down (even if only slightly). In other words, there does not seem to be any good reason to have a blinking insertion point. Blinking was good when screens were black & white (2 color), but now that reason is obsolete.
