Why doesn the risk sheet consider Ashkenazi Jewish background as a risk factor for breast cancer?
No one knows for sure whether Ashkenazi Jewish women are, in fact, at higher risk for breast cancer than other women. It was only very recently discovered that there might be a higher likelihood of certain inherited genetic alterations in the Ashkenazi population. Whether this means that Ashkenazi Jewish women have a higher risk for breast cancer is a question that scientists are actively trying to answer.
