Why doesn the Joseph Smith Translation of the Bible always agree with related passages in the Book of Mormon?
Here is the specific question (slightly modified for clarity) that I received in 2003: I was reading the Sermon on the Mount in the Bible and also the comparable scriptures in the Book of Mormon. I came to the first verse in Mathew chapter 7 (“Judge not, that ye be not judged”) and also the comparable verse in the Book of Mormon, 3rd Nephi chapter 14, verse 1. I found them to be the same. But here’s the thing that didn’t make any sense to me: I then found that the Joseph Smith translation of the fist verse in Matthew 7 altered the verse dramatically to “Judge not unrighteously, that ye be not judged; but judge righteous judgment.” The related verse in the Book of Mormon was not changed. It seems to show that Joseph Smith made a mistake, either in the JST or in the Book Of Mormon.
