Why doesn the government legalize marijuana for non-medicinal purposes?
The American government’s attitude towards legalizing both industrial hemp production and personal marijuana use is difficult to comprehend. Industrial hemp production would be a boon to America economically as well as ecologically. And marijuana users are simply not a “danger to society” on most levels, and where there are issues, marujuana users are significantly less of a problem than alcohol users. So as long is alcohol is legal, there’s really no logical or supportable reason at all to keep marijuana illegal. EXCEPT… the government has put a LOT of time, effort, energy and money into trying to tell us it’s “heathen devil weed.” Not only that, but there is now a huge bureaucracy and no small amount of funding and political power tied up in keeping marijuana illegal. And to the government, that’s reason enough to keep it illegal. Interesting side note: Originally, the cotton industry was one of the biggest lobbies for outlawing hemp. —(NEW POST! 1/3/2010)— I have to say the government makes MUCH more by ceasing assets and profits from drug dealers/ smugglers/ and even sometimes users than they would by receiving portions of state taxes from legal sales. Read up about the CIA providing Mac Dre with drugs to add to their profits. But as far as ceasing.. they take everything, cars, houses, guns, boats, growing materials, cash, TV’s, even petty stuff. Anything of any value is ceased when a drug dealer is caught (unless other income is proven). IF it was not for the Federal stronghold on major busts (DEA and Federal Marshalls) most of the money from the busts would actually go the the state of the bust just like the bust of a smalltime dealer on the street. But with this Federal stronghold there is a ton of money going directly to the Federal government versus state. If it were legalized for medical OR personal use in every state there would be more of a split of the profits between local and federal government. So
