Why doesn the district just sell the elementary school property?
If the sale of Red Rock would eliminate the need for a leeway and restore full-day kindergarten, a five-day school week and class size limits, or even ONE of those issues, we would be all for selling Red Rock and be lobbying strongly to find such a developer. Since the sale of any property would instead only result in a one-time lump sum of money, and leave all the above issues unresolved, PAGE does not have a position on the sale of Red Rock. Some feel it would be a long-term loss for a short-term gain. We do have a short-term window with our designation as a financially distressed district to have profits from property sales go into the general Operations fund. Any profit, from sales after that designation ends, would have to go into Capital Outlay and would not be available to impact class-sizes or programs.
