Why doesn the Computer Animation Festival accept videotapes or DVD-Video for jury submission?
Beginning in 2006, the SIGGRAPH Computer Animation Festival has been juried using an electronic video server. All works are uploaded through the electronic submission form and stored on a secure digital server and screened through digital movie file playback, eliminating media changeover time and format compatibility issues and generally increasing the video and audio quality of the material screened by the jury. Videotape or DVD-Video material would need to be digitized or “ripped” and re-compressed to movie files for use with the system, and this is beyond the resources of the festival. 14.
