Why doesn the Break-Out use a shear-pin or breakable-bolt?

A1. Although this is a tried and true method of supporting a light pole (where 3 or 4 bolts are used) in the case of a small sign support it is simply unreliable as limited available space means only one or two bolts can be used, as such the bolt would be constantly stressed when a load is applied. If the breakable bolt or shear pin is also used to connect the post to the anchor (which places the bolt under tension) then the torque applied to it will reduce or increase the load (wind, impact or vandalism) it breaks at. Break-Out’s breaking load is preset, cannot be altered by the installer and eliminates the need for torque wrenches, as a result it is the most reliable small sign support break-away ever devised.
