Why doesn’t the Board give out scholarships directly?
As discussed earlier, the overall philosophy is to give day-to-day responsibility to the Head of School, and long term strategic responsibility to the Board. The Board makes sure that scholarship funds are allocated fairly by auditing the Head of School’s implementation of the Scholarship policy. Additionally, the Board will be composed primarily of parents, and it is easier to respect applicants’ privacy if scholarship applications are not reviewed primarily by other Hillel parents.
