Why doesnt Southeast Missouri State University join MCHCP (Missouri Consolidated Health Care Plan, commonly referred to as the state plan)?
The University has considered joining the state plan. At the time, these provisions were cost-prohibitive to the University. A common misconception among faculty and staff centers around MCHCP premiums. The University, which would be a state-sponsored institution of higher learning as defined on the MCHCP website, would be considered a “public entity” employer. Public entity rates are roughly $100 higher per month for employees than the premiums we have been paying under MSU. Please reference public entity employer premiums on the following website: http://www.mchcp.org/pe_member/04pe/04_pe_rates/pubent/southeast1.htm CBIZ has also stated that only one hospital in Cape Girardeau would participate in the MCHCP network. CBIZ has recommended to Southeast that MCHCP not be considered as a viable alternative for health insurance coverage.
