Why doesn pressing the Initialize button work?
Appendix D in version 3.00 of the manual says that you need to hold the Initialize button for at least three seconds after resetting the controller to cause it to be reinitialized (restore the factory defaults). That method words for earlier RLC controllers, but the DSP404 takes longer to start up (it has to boot uClinux, which is much larger). On the DSP404, the init switch needs to be held for about 30 seconds as the controller starts up. If you have a radio connected to port 1, you should hear it speak “I N I T…controller ready” to indicate that it has finished reinitializing. If you hear only “controller ready”, it didn’t get reinitialized.
