Why doesn’t Prabha move to another part of India where conditions may be better?
Often people do move to the city to look for work. This is called urbanization. This can cause more problems as people who don’t have any money are forced to live in slums, don’t have access to adequate water and sanitation and find it very difficult to find meaningful employment as their farming skills cannot be put to good use. In many cases, what can seem like a desperate situation initially can be turned around with the support of agencies like Caritas Australia who partner with local community organizations. Since being involved in the Green Hope project, Prabha and her community are now working together, supporting each other and looking positively to the future in their community.
