Why doesn NOLS just live within its means, instead of asking for more money?
The voter initiative that became Washington state law in 2001 stipulates that taxing districts such as the Library District may levy a property tax budget that is no more than 1% over the amount collected in the previous year, unless the voters of the District approve a new levy rate. The Library Board decided that the most responsible action is to give the citizens of Clallam County their say at the ballot box. If the levy fails, budget cuts and accompanying reductions in hours and services will be implemented.
