Why doesn Hillingdon provide wheelie bins for waste collection ?
The current waste collection system used in Hillingdon is the one used throughout the majority of London and across the South East. Switching to wheelie bins would create problems for a significant number of the borough’s residents both in terms of where to store a wheelie bin as well as how to handle it considering that some of the borough’s elderly population would find this difficult. In addition a number of Government studies have shown that the provision of wheelie bins can hinder the development of recycling services. This is because wheelie bins make it too easy for people to throw rubbish away due to the generous nature of the storage capacity provided.
