Why doesn Finale or Allegro allow me to save a file in an older version format?
A. One of the reasons Finale is so powerful is that it has a very high degree of flexibility, which is made possible by a very “rich” data structure. As a result, to add the capability to save Finale or Allegro files in an older format would require significant additional development time that would prevent us from developing new functionality that is more frequently requested by our customers. If this functionality was added, and you “saved as” an older version, then much of the data made possible by the current version of Finale would be lost. Thus, if you need to share a file with someone who does not have a version of Finale as current as yours, we suggest you keep your old version of Finale on your hard drive, and create the file using that version. That way, you are ensured that what you created is exactly what they will be able to open. (When installing new Finale versions, it does not delete your old version.
