Why doesn Child Protective Services let the kid choose whether to stay or go?

Because no matter what the circumstances the child would choose to stay 99.9999% of the time!!! They are not able to objectively decide what is in their best interest!!!

I thought I would never say this…but, CPS are brought into a family when there are issues that need to be resolved. The parents involved are more times than not very abusive and neglectful. The main person to be hurt when taken from a situation like this are the children. Most states have an age that the child is able to say what their preference is. Children are dedicated to their parents, not matter the mess they allow them to live in! A child is of course not going to choose to leave their parent… this is the only parent that they no. To be ripped away from the only life you know is simply devastating and I find it very sad that parents would ever put themselves in this position… but, to put their children in the position to lose their parents, that is just totally appalling. Parents need to step up and make the lives of their children revolve around their children, not themselves!
