Why doesn Canada support a moratorium on bottom trawling?
Many in the environmental community are proposing a moratorium on bottom trawling on the high seas and applying pressure on the United Nations to that effect. The proposal hasn’t gained the support of major fishing nations, including Canada. Canada supports a process by which sensitive areas are identified on a scientific basis and measures are put in place to manage, in a sustainable way, any human activity that may have an impact on it.
