Why doesn CAENs wireless network support IEEE 802.11b or 802.11a protocols?

0

IEEE 802.11b is an old wireless standard first used in 1999. While IEEE 802.11b can co-exist on networks that support IEEE 802.11g, it severely degrades the available bandwidth for the devices that can use the higher speeds. After reviewing usage statistics for the wireless network, CAEN determined the use of 802.11b devices to be extremely low ( IEEE 802.11a is a wireless standard that was also introduced in 1999. It provided for a higher bandwidth connection in a different frequency range than IEEE 802.11b, but 802.11a clients and radios were more expensive and covered a smaller area. To help optimize the 802.11n network for higher speed connections, 802.11a was also turned off.
